The storytelling and the structure of this series are very particular. However, we don’t want to spoil it in case you haven’t watched it yet! All we can say is that it all starts with Ted Mosby talking to his kids, telling them about his life and friends and obviously, about how he met their mother.
Perfect if you want to improve your American English. The dialogues in this TV series are very informal, rich of phrasal verbs, idioms, and jokes. We encourage you to watch it with subtitles in English, and if you find it too difficult, with subtitles in your own language. Keep in mind that this kind of exercise has to be always enjoyable for you, or else you might end up not doing it. The story goes into a flashback and starts in 2005 with a 27-year-old Ted Mosby living in New York City and working as an architect; the narrative deals primarily with his best friends, including the long-lasting couple Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), womanizing-playboy Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), and news reporter Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders). The lives of all characters are entwined in each others. The series explores many storylines, including a "will they or won't they" relationship between Robin and each of the two single male friends, Marshall and Lily's relationship, and the ups and downs of the characters' careers.
